The bank, however, noted that neither the management nor colleagues of the deceased were aware of the challenges, adding that it was working with Nwakoby’s family and the police to unravel the nature of the challenges. Forty-four-year-old Nwakoby, said to be the manager of the bank’s branch in Lekki, shot himself in the head over a bad debt estimated at N350m on Friday. The deceased was said to have given out the sum as loan to a bank customer, who allegedly failed to service the loan. Felix Meduoye  to officially commence activities marking the 61st Annual Convention of the church in Nigeria. The lecture titled “The Nigerian Economy: The Past, Present & the Future” was presented by  Rev. Tunde Lemo , the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Chairman of Lambeth Trust and Investment Limited.  The chairman of the occasion was  Dr. Christopher Kolade  CON, Nigerian’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Among other dignitaries in attendance was the former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly,  Hon. FG to start paying ex-militants on Monday

Latest News July 31, 2016      Peter Dada, Akure The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), has said ex-Niger Delta militants will start receiving their stipends on Monday. Boroh consequently appealed to the ex-militants in the region to shelve the planned protests scheduled to hold on Monday. This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of the Media and Communication Department of the office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Abuja, Mr. Piriye Keyaramo. The coordinator, who expressed concern over the plight of the ex-agitators in respect of the delay in the payment of their stipends, explained that President Muhammandu Buhari appreciated their patience and the challenges were being addressed. The announcement was contained in a statement by the spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjmin. JAMB explained that the decision was to ensure that the Senate of Universities perform their statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and referring them to it for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, during the policy committee meeting. The Ahmed family have been enmeshed in a controversy with popular actress, Toyin Aimakhu and an NGO founder Aramide Kasumu. Speaking in a phone interview with one of our correspondents, the Public Relations Officer of LUTH, Mr. Kenneth Otuneme, said that the family had yet to sign a consent form for Mayowa’s release. Mohammad Karim, said to be aged around 60, was held in central Ghor province as he claimed her parents gave him the girl as a “religious offering”, officials said. PUNCH Metro  learnt that the victim, Favour (pseudonym) and Damilola were members of a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and the woman had invited the suspect to her birthday party on Tuesday, July 19. Favour, a National Diploma holder and fashion designer, was allegedly told by the suspect five days after the birthday party that he had a surprise gift for her. The two were said to have gone to Damilola’s apartment on Otubor Street on Omole Estate. Our correspondent gathered that the suspect raped the victim in his room. She was rescued on Thursday when neighbours living close to the building where she was chained alerted the police. The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said she was allegedly chained by her aunt, Chiamaka Okafor, who accused her of stealing N4,000. Oyeyemi said Chiamaka is currently on the run but her husband, Sunday Okafor has been arrested.

Indonesia executed four convicted drug traffickers just after midnight Friday, after the attorney general’s office said 14 death-row inmates would be put to death. The Jakarta Post said the paper had been printed before it learned that only four convicts, not 14, were shot by firing squad. APC wins Imo rerun election

Home    Latest News July 29, 2016      Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Ben Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of Imo North Senatorial District rerun election held on July 28. Uwajumogu scored 56,076 votes to defeat Mr Athan Achonu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 43, 815 votes. Prof. Arinze Agbogu, the INEC Returning Officer for Imo North Senatorial District, who announced the result in the early hours of Friday, said the outcome was a summation of scores of July 23 and that of July 28 exercise. Uwajumogu, had scored 48,921 on July 23, while Achonu, of the PDP, scored 40, 142 votes which made INEC to declare the rerun inconclusive. Agbogu said that available data before him showed that Uwajumogu had majority of lawful votes cast, and therefore returned elected for the Imo North Senatorial District.
