PASTORS CORNER 1ST DEC, 2019
THEME OF
THE YEAR: COVENANT OF PEACE (ISAIAH 54:10). THEME OF THE MONTH: A SON IS GIVEN
(ISAIAH 9:6).
TOPIC:
MANAGING YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE
On
this occasion of our just concluded convention, a convention of transition from
one administration to another, tagged from Glory to Glory, I congratulate you for
coming to a new month, the twelfth of our Gregorian Calendar month which also forms
the end of year 2019. I congratulate you for many victories you won to see this
season of the year.
While
congratulating you and myself, I lift my voice of gratitude to the Almighty God
for His sustaining grace that kept us in the faith and the fold of the Foursquare
movement as heaven bound pilgrims. May He be there for us till we see Him in eternity
in Jesus name. It is because of our hope to stay through to the end and see Him
in eternity that the theme of this month excites me. What do we mean by “A Son is
Given"? Isaiah prophesied about the birth of Jesus Christ in this text (Isaiah
9).
In the wake of persecution that took the life of John the Baptist, Matthew saw
the fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy recorded Isaiah 9:1 and 2 (See Mathew 4:15-16).
Is there any relationship between the two? Yes, the son of God was given for the
season that mattered to the land of Zebulum and the land of Naphtali”. The birth
of the Messiah is for a purpose in our lives.
Abraham
needed a son so that his inheritance would not go to Ishmael. David needed a son
to inherit his throne and build the temple he had envisioned. Our dreams, desires
and visions in life may never see the light of day unless we receive divine help
from above.
Isaiah’s prophecy points out that the “very region where Assyrian armies
brought darkness and death would be the first to rejoice in the light brought by
the preaching of Christ (Mathew 4:15-16’; c:f Isaiah 9:12). So also every potential of our lives destroyed
by sin or Satan will the Son of God touch with grace. Whatever has plundered our
testimonies in years past shall cease to perform their enterprise henceforth in
Jesus name because the Son of God will take His place in our lives.
This
season is meant for our joy and triumph over the powers of darkness. God will intervene
to bring fulfilment to our dreams and purpose in life. While we look up to God for
His intervention in our matter, we need to organize ourselves to accommodate divine
activities. He blesses Adams and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, etc. In Abraham
and through Jesus Christ the son of God all believers are blessed. God is waiting
for what we do with His blessing. May our eyes open to see the blessing as we search
the scriptures and pray (John 5:39).
