Literally, mercy could be seen as a kind or forgiving treatment of someone who sh ould be treated harshly. It could also be seen as compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power. Mercy is an act of kindness, compassion or favour. It is something that gives evidence of divine favour and blessing. The journey to the top in life requires the mercy of God to be successful. We need the mercy of God in order to secure access to everything obtainable in the kingdom of God. A life without mercy is full of struggle and profitless hard labour. What is height to one may not be height to another; so this theme is relative. Everyone of us must examine our present level and what the height of the next level(s) will be. What it simply means to do this is that we will need to set responsible goals for this year and many years to come for different aspects of our lives. Joy lifted my heart with hope, as I recalled the prayers of the previous year. Our congregation had collectively grieved over wayward children, deaths of loved ones, job losses, and broken relationships. But we’d also experienced God’s grace as we recalled changed hearts and healed personal connections. We’d celebrated victories, weddings, graduations, and baptisms into God’s family. We’d welcomed children born, adopted, or dedicated to the Lord, and more—so much more.
