Former Super Eagles defender cum Pastor, Taribo West has claimed that the recent deaths of Nigeria football icons Stephen Keshi and Shuaibu Amodu are ‘spiritual’ and advised that his generation of footballers must be prayerful.
Amodu, 58, died in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning after complaining of chest pains on Friday night.
The death of the former Orlando Pirates manager came just after four days his former assistant in the national team, Stephen Keshi died of cardiac arrest.
“Our generation is under attack, we have to be more prayerful. The deaths of Keshi and Amodu are spiritual,” Taribo West told Lagos based radio station RC102.3FM.
Meanwhile, Monaco left back Elderson Echiejile was left shocked by the demise of the former Super Eagles gaffer.
“Another big loss! This is shocking, I can’t believe it. He was a disciplinarian, father & a mentor. #RIPAmodu #EUE3,” he tweeted.
Member of FIFA technical committee to the 2016 Rio Olympics, Sunday Oliseh tweeted: “Waking up to another devastating horrible news: Amodu Shuiabu, former coach of Nigeria is proclaimed dead! 1st Keshi & now this. God help us!.”
Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie paid tribute to the late coach via her instagram account, she wrote: “Him again? Barely 48 hours of big Boss passing on…… Coach Shuaibu Amodu joins him😭😭😭 Another big blow for Nigerian football. What exactly is going on? This life is in vain indeed. Rest in peace Sir.”
Amodu was a striker during his playing days – he had spells at Dumez and Niger Tornadoes between 1976-81 before a horrific leg break ended his career
